Uses of exposed ashlar
Exposed - split and rusticated - ashlar is used for wall facing: the face seen and the two side edges are split, while the rear face can be natural quarry or sawn.
Characteristics of ashlar
According to size, there are two types of Ashlar:
- Ashlar type 8/14:
Thickness/height variable 8 to 14 cm;
Weight ratio 230 kg/m² approx;
Weight per stone 2 to15 kg approx..
- Ashlar type 15/20:
Thickness/height variable 15 to 20 cm;
Weight ratio kg 280/m² approx;
Weight per stone kg 3 to 25 approx.
